Sun ‘N Lake Improvement District in Sebring has expanded its popular pickleball facilities with a $65,000 investment in six new permanent courts. The project converted former flex courts into dedicated pickleball courts, bringing the total to 14. The new courts open today and will be available daily from 7 a.m. to midnight. Sun ‘N Lake residents can play for free, while non-residents can purchase memberships or day passes. Those interested can visit the recreation office on Edgewater Drive or call 863-382-3679.
The School Board of Highlands County is restructuring its safety leadership role, changing the position from “Director of Safety and Security” to a “Coordinator” to help reduce costs. The shift has sparked discussion among board members about maintaining strong qualifications for this critical job. The board voted unanimously to require at least three years of school-based leadership or related safety experience for the new coordinator role. The position will also oversee the AVID program, which prepares students for college and careers.
Lakeland’s own McCoy Moore is about to take the country music scene by storm! The 24-year-old singer-songwriter just signed with Sony Music Nashville, joining big names like Luke Combs and Old Dominion. Moore’s new single, ‘John Deere Blue,’ is already spinning on stations across the country and winning over new fans. He’s also released a summer anthem called ‘Naming Boats.’ Moore will be back on tour this fall and says a hometown performance in Lakeland is in the works
Charlotte County Public Schools are set to build a new Advanced Manufacturing Training Center at Punta Gorda Airport, thanks to a $1.75 million boost from the Florida state budget. The center will offer hands-on training in aerospace and manufacturing, helping students and adults prepare for local jobs paying up to $75,000 a year. Officials say the project will keep skilled workers in Southwest Florida and support the region’s growing economy. Construction is underway, with the goal of strengthening Florida’s workforce for years to come.
