As of 5:00AM Thursday morning, Highlands County Emergency Personnel have not been cleared to go back out on the roads due to the risks associated with unsafe wind conditions. Residents that need help may still call 911- but response times will be delayed until they are able to safely respond to emergency calls. As Milton exits the State, wind conditions are expected to continue to improve in Highlands County over the morning hours.
At 6:38PM, Station 14, Station 15, and Highlands County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of Palm Blvd. In Sebring. An area of active flames was located to the side of the structure and was quickly put out.
Widespread power outages are affecting Highlands County. As of 5:30 AM Glades County was reporting that about 86% percent of customers served in Highlands County were out of power. Duke Energy is also reporting that about 32, 000 residential and business customers were out of power, but that crews would begin the process of repairing and rebuilding as Milton gradually moves out of our region. Overall Hurricane Milton has caused power outages for about 2.2 million residential and business customers in the Sunshine State.
