63-year-old Bobbi Lynn Smith, of Sebring, has been arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter more than five years after a 2020 crash that killed 62-year-old Joseph Michael Delsignore. Florida Highway Patrol says Smith was speeding on Duane Palmer Boulevard when she lost control, causing the van to overturn and strike a palm tree. Delsignore died at the scene. Tests showed Smith’s blood alcohol level was over five times the legal limit, with multiple drugs also in her system. She’s being held without bond. Her arraignment is set for July 28th.
Construction of the Avon Park Depot Museum’s new baseball exhibit is ahead of schedule, with exterior completion expected by mid-August. The Highlands County School Board has approved the $199,900 purchase of property across from Avon Elementary to provide much-needed parking for school events, despite concerns over tight district finances. The property at 710 W. Winthrop Street, which includes a house, was previously owned by Audrey Renner, who allowed the school to use it for parking. After her passing, the estate listed it for sale. Assistant Principal Ashley Culverhouse said the space is vital for parent involvement, with events drawing around 200 families. The Board is exploring options to sell the house separately. Closing is scheduled for July 16.
A Lakeland woman is facing a long list of charges after a chaotic series of events involving assault, property damage, and a police chase. Deputies say 37-year-old Samantha Coulter climbed a fence to attack an acquaintance, then later rammed her grandmother’s Cadillac through the victim’s fence. When deputies tried to stop her, she allegedly reversed into a patrol car and attempted to flee again, saying, “Why? This is fun!” Deputies eventually detained her, but not before she slipped out of her handcuffs and had to be restrained again. Coulter faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, burglary with assault, and attempted escape.
